2015 BMW 2-Series Coupe Spy Shots

2015 BMW 2-Series Coupe Spy Shots. The BMW 1-Series is many things to many people. It's even a front-wheel drive car to 80 percent of its owners. But despite the lack of owner edification on the car's actual mechanicals, it's due for a complete revamping in 2014--and a renaming as well. We've already spied the 1-Series-replacing 2-Series Convertible in testing. The 2-Series Coupe seen here shows many of the same traits, just as you'd expect: it's a bit sleeker and rounder than the current 1-Series, but it retains the same general proportions and feel. While the camouflage doesn't leave much to the imagination in the way of the new 2-Series' overall outline, the details are still heavily obscured.
Even so, it's clear BMW is planning a new headlight and taillight scheme for the 2-Series, as well as a general refinement of the sheet metal. Inside, it's likely to be more of the same: similar, but fresh, with the familiar BMW feel. The new 2-Series Coupe will join the upcoming 4-Series to round out BMW's even-numbered coupe/convertible range (which also includes the 6-Series). The name change therefore aligns the smallest of BMW's coupes with the largest, and divides them neatly from the brand's sedans and wagons. Like the current 1-Series shares with the 3-Series engine range, we expect the same for the 2-Series.

That means a 240-horsepower-range 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder 228i and a 3.0-liter, 300-horsepower turbo in-line six 335i are likely. M Performance models may also join the range later, while non-U.S. markets could also get diesel and/or three-cylinder options. Both six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmissions are likely, though a dual-clutch transmission may also carry forward to the 2-Series. Rear-wheel drive will remain the standard fare, but it's possible that BMW may also add the option of xDrive on some models. Look for more details in this space as the car draws nearer to its expected 2014 debut as a 2015 model. 2015 BMW 2-Series Coupe Spy Shots.
